aka reply before I hunt you down!
As soon as
guests receive one of our cute wedding invites the reaction is
normally, "wow, I bet this wedding is going to be super cool,
I'm going to send the RSVP straight away!". However, if some
of your guests don't reply straight away, don't panic: we've got the
solution!
Why
wouldn't your amazing invite produce an immediate reply?
In defence
of those poor disorganized souls, let's try to understand their
reasons for testing your patience so cruelly:
1. They
forgot. Don't take it personally, I'm sure they are really
thrilled about your wedding, but it happens all the time! People
postpone an easy chore, such as replying to an invitation, and their
memory erases it.
2. They
told your mother they're coming. Some people aren't good with
formalities and will try to cut to the chase by calling one of your
relatives, or simply by shouting their reply across the street next
time they see you.
3. They've congratulated you twice already. I know, it doesn't make sense, but the human mind works in strange ways. I can already picture auntie Babs telling uncle Mick, "never-mind sending that one. I told her how happy we were, she knows we're coming!"
The solution
to these problems is simple: timing. If you plan your wedding ahead,
allowing time to work out these small set-backs, everything will be
OK. As we told you last week, invites should be sent out at least 10
weeks before the wedding and the deadline to send RSVP's should be 5
weeks before the wedding. It is important to create a sense of
urgency, otherwise your guests will just postpone the simple task of
ticking a box and dropping the card in the mail.
After the
deadline, ring the few guests that haven't replied. They won't think
you're a nag for calling once, or even twice if you need to! Make
sure they know how important their presence is for you, and they'll
send the blessed RSVP card straight away.
