Weddings
have changed. They are no longer just formal family gatherings
cordially hosted by Mr and Mrs MumandDad. They are original,
emotional, and fun! However, sometimes couples have a hard-time
translating this into words.
Yes, writing
your wedding invitation can be a tricky task. Maybe you want to sound
fun, but not in a your-mum-will-be-shocked kind of way. And you want
the invitation to be informative without sounding like an instruction
manual. Maybe you'd like to make a joke, but you're not sure everyone
is going to get it, so you end up going with the
traditional "request the pleasure of your company"...
That's why
we've decided to put together a handy formal-to-normal wedding
invitation translation guide.
1. The parents of the bride are
inviting

Something else

Mr. & Mrs. MumandDad request the
pleasure of your company at a reception following the marriage of
their daughter E to Mr. D at Hotel x, Cardiff, on Saturday 30th
September at 5 o'clock.
|
On
Saturday 30th September we will be celebrating our daughter's
marriage to Mr. D, and we would like to invite you for the
reception! The party will be taking place at Hotel x, Cardiff, on
Saturday 30th September at 5 o'clock.
Warmly,
Mum and Dad
|
Mr. & Mrs. MumandDad can't
believe he's finally going to marry our daughter. Please join us
on this glorious day!
|
|
2. The couple is inviting
|
Miss E and Mr. D request the honour
of your presence at their marriage.
|
We would
love to have you at our wedding!
E&D

Be there
or be square!

3. Both parents and couple are
inviting
|
Mr. &
Mrs. MumandDad1 and their daughter E together with Mr. & Mrs.
MumandDad2 and their son D
request the honour of your presence at the wedding of E and D |
On behalf
of both our families and ourselves we would like to invite you to
our wedding party. It's going to be unforgettable!
E&D
|
Oi, everyone wants you to come to our
wedding! And when we say everyone we mean everyone: mum, dad,
uncle Pete, aunt Bessie, John, father Ted, Trish (...)list
continues endlessly(...)

Ok, the
"something else" column might be a little bit too "out
there" but hey, if it works for you that's cool. If you're still
not sure which path you should follow, why don't you send out two
versions: a polite and tidy version for the family, and a fun one for
your mates!
Whatever you
decide, the most important thing is to keep it simple and personal!
This is perfect and just what I needed! But I'm also stuck as to what else exactly goes into the invites?!
